What a start to the season, especially, given that so few of these players have participated in an 11-a-side hockey match before. The boys worked hard to implement the advice offered by Mrs Allen and Mr Sparrow at the start of the game - to pass the ball fast, hard and wide - and did not take long to gel as a team. At the one end of the pitch, Luca Coe made some stellar saves in goal, ably supported by the committed defence of Robbie Barton and others; at the other, Thomas Weisser scored with practically his first touch of the ball and threatened to do the same every time we entered the D; in between, Will Mercer and Ollie Ferry disrupted Cranleigh's play well and distributed the ball effectively to the wide channels. Well done to all involved in an impressive first outing!
